U2 to Commemorate Fall of Berlin Wall

U2 will play a free show in Germany to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The “Get On Your Boots” rockers will play in front of Berlin’s iconic Brandenburg Gate as part of the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) on November 5, as a prelude to the city’s “Fall of the Wall” celebrations.
“It’ll be an exciting spot to be in, 20 years almost to the day since the wall came down,” the group’s manager, Paul McGuinness, said. “They’re expecting tens of thousands of people to turn up,” a source added to Britain’s Daily Mirror. “They’ve played some interesting places in the past but this’ll certainly be the most ambitious - and most poignant - one to date.”
Parts of the set will be beamed live into the EMAs which take place in the city on the same day.

Musician Jeff Beck will be stepping in for Eric Clapton later this week during festivities for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 64-year-old guitarist was forced to cancel his Madison Square Garden performance after undergoing surgery for gallstones.
Beck is just one of several musicians lined up for the two-day benefit event in New York. Stevie Wonder, Sting, Paul Simon and Crosby, Stills & Nash are amongst those scheduled for Thursday while Aretha Franklin, Lenny Kravitz, U2 and Metallica are on the slate for Friday.
Bruce Springsteen - who canceled an appearance in Kansas City yesterday after a death in his family - is also supposed to appear on Thursday.
Clapton is reportedly doing well and is recovering from his operation in England.

U2’s Unprofitable Tour
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Rock

U2‘s world tour costs $750,000 a day to stage - even when the band has the day off. Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton’s current 360 Degree tour - which features a huge stage called “The Claw” - is so expensive to run it is yet to make a profit, even after 33 concerts.
The “Get on Your Boots” rockers have played across Europe and North America since kicking off the run of concerts in Barcelona, Spain, on June 30.

U2 will be making up for lost time.

The gigs have been scheduled for the week of March 2-6. Not so coincidentally, the band’s next album, No Line on the Horizon, will be released on March 3.

UPDATE: The first digital track was released earlier than scheduled. It can now be purchased on iTunes.
U2’s twelfth studio album has now been given an image to go with its name. No Line on the Horizon - with art courtesy of Japanese artist/photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto - marks the first time since 1993’s Zooropa that the band does not appear on the cover.
The LP’s first single, “Get On Your Boots,” can be purchased as a digital download beginning February 15th. Horizon will then be available on five different formats just two weeks later (March 3). Digipack versions will also include a film directed by Anton Corbijn.
A track listing for the new album can be found after the jump.

U2 Set to Release New Album
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Concerts / Tours, Upcoming Releases

Next spring, U2 will show us all what they’ve been working on since dismantling a bomb.
Although the group had originally planned to complete its next project by the end of 2008, their 12th studio album is now scheduled for a March 3 release. (No Line on the Horizon will be available internationally on March 2.) The band’s desire to add more tracks is the reason for the delay.
“I met with the guys in U2, and they say to me, ‘You know what? This album needs two more songs, and it will be exactly what we have in mind.’ I go there and I listen, and I agreed with them,” Interscope-Geffen-A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine stated.
