Britney Spears has begun work on hew eighth studio album.
The "Gimme More" hitmaker is teaming up with writer Elijah Blake - who has previously worked with stars including Rihanna and Usher - for the follow up to 2011's Femme Fatale and the songwriter thinks fans will be "surprised" by the tracks.
"I think her fans will be surprised by it. I would say it's definitely the 'unexpected' Britney in so many ways, in that she's playing with new textures and stomping on new grounds and genres," Elijah said. "I've definitely had the pleasure of starting on something I think is going to be big with her," he also wrote on Twitter.
No further information about the record has been released, but Britney, 31, was previously spotted in a recording studio with Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. Blackout producer Danja has also previously confirmed he would work with her again.

The X Factor judge - who neither released a new album or went on tour in 2012 - raked in an estimated $58 million in just 12 months, according to Forbes magazine.
Most of the 30-year-old popstar's profits - which are just slightly less than the $64 million she earned in 2010 - came from her comeback Femme Fatale tour that grossed $68.7 million worldwide, followed by her Femme Fatale album, in addition to her popular fragrance line with Elizabeth Arden and her endorsement deals.
Music attorney Lori Landew, who helped Britney negotiate her first record deal as a teenager, attempted to explain her huge success despite a few rough years, saying, "Britney has an electricity that connects with audiences on screen and off, and it is that intangible quality that always seems to leave her fans, old and new, breathless."
Rihanna has been named Billboard's Top Pop Artist of the last 20 years.
The "Diamonds" hitmaker tops the music magazine's list of the most successful artists in the history of its Pop Songs chart, which started on October 3, 1992. The magazine awarded her top spot for her achievements on the chart, which include 34 appearances with 21 top ten hits, and nine number one songs, an accolade she shares with Katy Perry, placed at sixth on the list.
The top ten was dominated by solo women singers, with Usher the only male, and Black eyed Peas the only group. Pink is in second place, followed by Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson and Mariah Carey.
Katy comes in next, and New York based radio program director Sharon Dastur, reminisced about the first time she worked with her: "Katy's very first single, 'I Kissed a Girl,' had just recently come out and we were playing it on [radio station] Z100. We started to feel an early buzz on the song, but the masses still weren't that familiar with who Katy was. We invited her to come on-stage at our Jingle Ball to help introduce one of the acts performing. We weren't sure if the crowd would be familiar with her by name, so we suggested that when she went out there, she should sing the hook of 'I Kissed a Girl' a capella. As soon as the crowd heard that, they sang every word along with her. Katy has told us that she'll always remember that moment."
Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez are touring together this summer.
The singers will co-headline a world tour - expected to include more than 60 dates - set to kick off in Venezuela, South America, this June. Dates are also being lined up in the United States, Europe and Asia, although these have yet to be confirmed. The tour will be Jennifer's first full world tour, and she is gearing up for a spectacular stage show.

Lady Gaga, Backstreet Boys, and Katy Perry songs have all been banned in China. The Asian country's ministry of culture has deemed 100 tracks by artists unsuitable for its citizens telling websites selling and streaming them both legally and illegally to remove them before September 15 or face prosecution.
The ministry follows guidelines to ensure tracks are not in "poor taste and vulgar content," and claims the songs on its latest list have not been submitted for approval, which has to be done by the song's writer themselves. While most of the songs are by artists from Taiwan and Honk Kong, six of Lady Gaga's tracks have been banned: "The Edge of Glory," "Hair," "Marry the Night," "Americano," "Judas," and "Bloody Mary."
