New Music Video for Mel Gibson’s Girlfriend
Mel Gibson recently said that he found himself attracted to Oksana Grigorieva’s talent before he actually met the singer. Now the actor/director is dating the Russian musician, the mother of soon-to-be eighth child.
On her new album, Beautiful Heartache, the 39-year-old is credited as the sole writer on every song with the exception of one. For “Say My Name,” which can be seen above, the classically trained pianist received lyrical help from Gibson. “It is naked, intimate, raw emotion, little more than piano and voice as if it is a cry from the soul,” Oksana said of the song. [NOTE: Mel also had a hand in directing the boring video.]
If you like the sampling, you can check out more of Grigorieva’s work through her website.

Aaargh!! I can not tolerate the sound of this woman’s IRRITATING voice!!! She truly makes me feel profound anxiety, to TURN IT OFF! I couldn’t listen all the way through Flying Upside Down. The video?!! I watched, in a sort of stupfied horror. What’s with the ghoulish lighting??
note to Mel:
IT ISN’T ATTRACTIVE!

Lacking in style and grace. Untrained, affected and irritating voice that is painful to the ears, and the video of the tiny little wagging head with rubber ducky lips in the dim room is hard on the eyes. Stick to playing the piano for lounge lizards in dim light, after several drinks. And what’s with the flashlight under the chin effects? Who is supposed to be the target audience? Middle aged men in midlife crisis? Sorry, Mel, we’re not buying into this one with you.

as a singer who HAS actually trained with REAL opera coaches, one a prof emeritus from Juilliard, here’s my take - the song is ok, musically, BUT I cannot believe Oksana seriously ever studied with anyone as far as her singing is concerned - at least, not anyone who she learned what opera singing is supposed to be. She is not on her breath, but breathy. Her diction is horrible - even good pop singers have good diction - look at Sinatra! Excellent diction. Her voice, described by others as ‘thin’ is not abdominally produced - I don’t know if in this video she is actually singing live or lip synching, but her neck muscles look strained and she is jutting her head out - bad form for singing - you keep the chin in and don’t sing on the throat. She is not singing with good support. Her tone is thin because of that. And her tone also sounds scratchy at one point. She is scooping all over the place and sliding between notes - a good ‘opera’ singer knows how to sing LEGATO and tries to connect their notes from one to the next fluidly - or at least practices their buns off working to achieve that. I won my local Met auditions years ago - didn’t go to regionals - but there are so many wonderful singers out there who, win or not, can sing circles around this gal. Just shows the injustice of the ‘entertainment’ industry that those who have talent oftentimes don’t get a chance whereas those who haven’t got what it takes do. Her skills are obviously more in the piano department than in the singing department. There is no opera company in the world that would hire her for any role, even a soubrette one. She would not carry over an orchestra.
